Catharine Magel
Catharine Magel has a distinguished career as a studio artist spanning over 30 years of National exhibitions in Museums and Galleries. She has been the recipient of numerous awards: National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant and a Connecticut Commission on the Arts Grant. Catharine received her Masters in Fine Arts from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, New York. She received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Missouri. Certified with Community Arts Training from the CAT Institute.
Her work is in many permanent International collections including The Het Kruithuis Museum, S’Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, and The American Ceramic Museum in Fuping China.
She began training as a scenic painter and became a USA Scenic Artist Journeyman. New experience and training, allowed understanding of team work and commissions have been her focus. In public art, she found a niche and thrived, incorporating painting and sculpting together in large-scale ceramic and mosaic work. Now she has worked in many other materials such as cast metal, fiberglass, and water jet cut metal. Collaboration with community and industry has produced many new innovative works and three for Arts in Transit Metro link stations.
